With the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing, high school and college graduation ceremonies in the US this year likely won’t be taking place.

YouTube has got this year’s crop of students covered with Dear Class of 2020, and has put together a star-studded line-up of virtual commencement speakers.

The K-pop group join President Barack Obama, Lady Gaga and Malala Yousafzai in delivering rousing speeches that will deliver a message of hope in these unusual times.

BTS, who released their album Map Of The Soul: 7 earlier this year, are also set to perform via livestream for a special graduation night party along with other artists yet to be announced.

Dear Class of 2020 will also feature appearances from Zendaya, Kelly Rowland, Kerry Washington and Chloe X Halle, as well as YouTube creators Jackie Aina, The Try Guys, Asapscience and more.

YouTube has teamed up with Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative, Born This Way Foundation, Malala Fund, TODAY, and Ideas United to bring us uplifting student stories from graduates from around the world.

Susanne Daniels, Global Head of Original Content for YouTube, said: ‘Graduation is a tradition that students and families look forward to and with the current state of the world, YouTube is lending some inspiration in the form of a virtual commencement.

‘We hope bringing together noteworthy, influential speakers along with performances from some of their favorite artists will provide encouragement for the students who have worked so hard to get here.’

President and Mrs Obama will also deliver a joint heartfelt message to the Class of 2020.

The multi-hour event kicks off on 6 June on YouTube at 8pm BST.
